  • The Madame Tussauds Amsterdam opened in 1970
  • The founder and creator of Madame Tussauds was the German wax modeler Marie Tussaud (1761 - 1850)
  • In 1835 Madame Tussaud founded a permanent exhibition space in The Bazaar on London's Baker Street
  • All figures are made 2% larger than they actually are in real life, as thats how much the wax is expected to shrink over time
  • The smallest ever waax figure that has been made is the fictional character Tinkerbell. Other fictional figures they've made our Shrek, the Incredible Hulk, and the Burger King.
  • Marie's first ever sculpture was of Francois Voltaire, at the young age of 16
  • There are currently 21 Madame Tussauds worldwide
  • Throughout the French Revolution, Madame Tussauds was imprisoned and during this time, she made death masks of executed nobles
  • All portraits have their hair washed and make-up retouched regularly
