Explore the history of the bag in a magnificent heritage 17th-century canal house

Every bag tells its own story about the fashion, art, skills and culture of a particular time period. Uncover the rich history of this everyday item with a visit to the unique Museum of Bags. From the Middle Ages to present day; timeless classics to one-of-a-kind pieces; and world-famous brands to up-and-coming designers, the museum is home to an incredible collection of historic and culturally-important bags.

Located in a beautiful 17th-century canal house, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Canal Ring area of Amsterdam, the museum was developed from the private collection of Hendrikje and Heinz Ivo, originally opening in 1996 in Amstelveen before moving to its current home.

Take a break from sightseeing and relax with a cup of coffee or tea and French petit fours in the beautiful café or enjoy a long lunch or High Tea in an authentic 17th-century room - a truly unique Amsterdam experience.
